These warp weights are an excellent tool to have on hand for any weaver. They can be used to add weight to a warp thread that feels a little loose, or if a warp thread has snapped you can wind a new strand onto the spool of the warp weight and hang it off the back of the loom while you work. These weights can also be used for the floating selvedge, instead of beaming the floating selvedge onto the warp beam with everything else.
These warp weights were designed to be easy to use and compact for storage. The spool has two hooks, one to hold the working thread and one to hold weights for adjusting the tension.
TOP HOOK USE:
When using the top hook for the working thread, simply place the strand in the side notch of the spool and run it around the hook and up over your back beam. As you wind your woven fabric onto your front beam, the warp weight will rise up. Once it's up to your back beam, you would unwind another length of the warp that is wound on it, place the strand in the notch and wrap it around the hook again and you're good to start weaving again.
BOTTOM HOOK USE:
The bottom hook is used for your weights and enables you to adjust the weight easily while weaving, without needing to unwind all the warp on the spool the way that you would have to on a top-loaded warp weight. In order to adjust the tension or weight, you can add or remove weights from the bottom hook. Common household items that can be used as weights include: keys, keychains, washers, s hooks, rings, fishing weights, etc. You can also hang one of these warp weights off the bottom of another in order to add weight. The possibilities are endless!
Please note, the weights that you would add to the bottom hook are not included. The warp weights come fully assembled, and the only things you need to provide are the yarn and the items you wish to use as weights.
MEASUREMENTS: 2.5" x 1"
COLOR:
If you do not request a specific color, then the color you receive will be random. The color of the spools may vary based on the supplies we have in stock. If you would like a specific color, you can write it in the customer notes / comments section of your order and I will do my best to accommodate.
I designed these myself and they are 3D printed with PLA filament, which is an environmentally friendly plastic.
